FG in collaboration with Kebbi State Govt Flag-off trans-boundary pest control and aerial pesticide spray launch.

 

NATIONAL FLAG OFF OF THE CONTROL OF TRANS-BOUNDARY PESTS IN FRONT LINE STATES
The Kebbi State Government Yesterday, 16th September, 2016 received delegates led by Federal Minister of Agriculture Chief Audu Ogbe for the National Flag-off of the 'CONTROL OF TRANS-BOUNDARY PESTS IN FRONT LINE STATES'.
Welcomed by His Excellency, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Deputy Governor Samaila Yombe, Royal fathers and government officials at the Ahmadu Bello International airport in Birnin kebbi, the minister proceeded directly to the flag off ceremony happening at the same venue with the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar Yauri declaring the ceremony open with a welcome remark thanking all present.


The Hon. Minister in his speech expressed his delight over the flag off, stressing that Kebbi State has set a very good example for agriculture in Nigeria. Chief Ogbe stated that the country is beginning to depend on Kebbi for the production and supply of rice, maize and millet. He said for this reason it would not be acceptable for the Ministry to sit back in Abuja allowing crops to be destroyed by pests causing a loss for both farmers and the economy.
He added that the Federal Government is considering a reward system for Kebbi following the efforts of farmers across the state. The minister noted the level of positive impact the farmers and government of Kebbi State are making on agricultural food supply in the country. He mentioned that there was clearly no laziness in the State.
The Minister thanked the Executive Governor of Kebbi State for a job well done in the agricultural sector. He encouraged him to continue with the good work of making Kebbi state a food supplier. He also thanked the good people of Kebbi State in general while also encouraging Nigerians towards farming.
His Excellency, Governor Bagudu responded by expressing his gratitude to the Hon. Minister and his entourage for continuously showing support. He explained that Nigerians who have embraced change understand the path the country is taking. He added that the Hon. Minister should make bold to tell President Muhammad Buhari that Nigeria is on the right course.
The Governor added that what is being witnessed in Kebbi State is yielding positive results in the agricultural sector. He called on the Federal Government to replicate similar support across all the states in the country. He further stated that the pest control flag off came at the appropriate time to prevent the destruction of farm produce across the state.
The Permanent Secretary Kebbi State Ministry of Agriculture in his vote of thanks thanked the Hon. Minister of Agriculture Chief Audu Ogbeh for his continues efforts, he equally thanked the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, The Deputy Governor col. Samaila Yumbe, Royal fathers of Argungu, Gwandu, Yauri and Zuru for the continued support to this government.
He lastly prayed that Kebbi State and Nigeria will continue to progress and prosper in all its endeavours.
In between, there was a brief cultural entertainment/drama presented to enlighten people on the significance of the flag off for the control of pests. At the end of the programme the team lead of the pest control Engineer Pan and his Pilot demonstrated through the use of the Airplane how the pesticide spray will be done.
