“There Come Another Love Story” Episode Three
September 17th 2016

Okasha stood restlessly, and then he sat again.
Since the awful event, it appeared that there had been something that himself and his wife had both not said to each other and now he is desperately trying to figure it out. Although they talked, and made light jests like they always did, but such mood disappears very briefly. Tani’s laughter to his remarks and jokes were obviously faked. She’d sit in the sitting room alone when she was supposed to join him on the bed, she’d become easily lost watching movies and she even burnt food one evening and that was extremely strange because Okasha could not remember any day of their five years marriage when Tani burnt anything, she had always been a perfect cook.
“So, what is it that you want to speak with me about?” Okasha finally uttered.

“I’m …” Tani stopped short and smiled furtively at how confident the words were eager to pour out of her mouth, she had anticipated fear, but no – the past few weeks of fear had completely restructured her configuration, and she didn’t care anymore if Okasha was now going to feel hurt by her confessions or not.
“Look Dear. I can see it too.” Okasha acted up, “there has been something missing in this house since that day – that very evil day. But you know how we have always been, I am not a pro in human feelings and I mostly count on your intelligence as a Psychologist to, at least, come up with something.
I believe there must be a way we can try bringing everything back to the way it has always been. You know? Me, You. Us!” He gave a tearful smile.
“Everything can’t be the same again.” She responded coldly, because she knew that everything he was now trying to build was completely impossible. Their marriage, from the very start had been an impossible one too anyway, and it had taken her five traumatic years to realize that.
“What do you mean Tee?”
“You know what I mean Okasha.”
“I wish I did.” Sudden fear was readable in Okasha’s eyes. It was now seeming that she was touching another aspect of his life that he had done justice too already. Was she thinking that their bareness was his fault? Has she concluded that he can’t provide the necessary security for her life because of the event, or has she…? Okasha trembled at the final line of his thought.
“I am pregnant.”
Okasha’s burden lightened. His wife’s choice of Psychology had several beauties such as this – creating a sober mood to deliver a great news. The prologue of her revelation had gotten too deep in him that he couldn’t gather himself instantly to scream for joy at the great news, but he calm down and said Alhamdulillah!! Masha Allah tears just fell ceaselessly from his eyes before his lips finally curved into a slight arc and gradually beamed with happiness. He rose from his seat.
“This is great! This is the greatest news of my life! So, we finally hit it! The siege is finally broken.”
Okasha was going to start rolling on the floor, but the way his wife wasn’t joining in the fiesta brought his mind back home; “What is it Tee?”
“It’s not your baby.” She took her eyes away, so as not to betray herself.
Okasha staggered back to his seat but couldn’t place his buttocks on the right spot and keeep saying Innalillahi Wa Inna’ilaihi raji’un, so he fell on the carpet, stood again and fell again, then he remained sited on the floor and the drying tears in his eyes flowed helplessly.
If his brain had been working correctly, he would have remembered that Tani had gone for a medical checkup that morning and came back claiming that everything had been flushed out, and if that was true, pregnancy was – among everything else impossible. But that was not going to be the first thought of an expectant man and he couldn’t be blamed.
“Its not my baby?… You mean the baby is not mine…? I am not the father? You are pregnant…?” There was no response. He wasn’t asking her anyway. “So you didn’t do any test that day?”
“I didn’t.” She stood and left the sitting room. She would spend the weekend somewhere where she can (and let him) cry.
Okasha’s attempt to stop her at the door by calling her name was swallowed in his inaudible scream. He could only fall back on the cushion and cry more!
To be continued insha Allah on Saturday 17th Sept …
