The Zamfara Government says it will recruit more medical doctors, nurses, medical laboratories scientists and community health workers as part of the measures to improve healthcare sector.
The state Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, made this known on Wednesday at the launch of the 2017 Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH) Bi-annual Week.
It was organised by the state Ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNICEF.
Wakkala, represented by Alhaji Umar Jibo, the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, said that the government had already upgraded and renovated general hospitals and primary healthcare centres in the state.

“We are now making arrangements to commence the recruitment of health personnel in order to address the problems of shortage of human resources in the healthcare centres,” he said.
The deputy governor commended the international donors that have been partnering with the state government in promoting healthcare delivery.
According to him, health awareness programmes, especially on women and children, will be conducted at a week-long activity.
“We should assist government in educating our people, especially those in the rural communities, on healthcare programmes,” he said.
In his remarks, the acting Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Health, Alhaji Sanusi Kwatarkwashi, said that children and women were always the targets and most vulnerable in the health sector.
According to him, routine immunisation, ante-natal care, birth registration and handwashing will feature in the MNCH Week.
The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, commended the state government and donor agencies for improving healthcare sector in the state.
