Adamawa Custom Boss warned smugglers to get a legitimate job as their days in the illegal trade were numbered

The Comptroller of the Nigerian Custom Service (NSC), Adamawa and Taraba states command, Adetoye Francis, has warned smugglers to look for legitimate jobs as their days in the illegal trade were numbered.

Adetoye made the remark, on Tuesday, during the review of the commands performance for the months of January to July and the presentation of seized petroleum products seized by his command to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Yola.

According to him, “The narrative has changed and the graph of revenue generation and the number of seizures made are pointedly looking upward with a clear warning that smugglers should look for a legitimate job, get out of the area or be exposed to the full wrath of the law. As they changed strategy, we are already ahead of them and leakages are blocked promptly.”

He warned that the Adamawa and Taraba command would not relent in its effort to stamp out the illicit activities of smuggling gangs in the area, observing that stopping illegal importation of banned goods is a responsibility the command has to shoulder in order to contribute its quota in the promotion of made in Nigerian goods.

Adetoye also pointed out that despite the disturbing decimal of insurgency, communal clash, flooding and it’s attendant toll on roads and bridges in the north east, the command has been able to exceed its monthly revenue for the months of May and June, 2017 by over 30 per cent.

He maintained that the Customs under encouragement and dynamic leadership of Col. Hameed Ali has been able to generate revenue of over N111.7 million and made twenty two seizures with a Duty Paid Value amounting to about N42.7 million within the period under review. During the event the comptroller handed over 400 jerrycans of 25 litres of petroleum products to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and a carton of seized banned drugs to NAFDAC.
