Kano state government presents scholarship to 9 students, 10 Imams to study in Al-Azhar University Egypt


The Governor of Kano State His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR today presented offer of scholarship to 19 indigines of Kano which was given by the Egyptian Government.
9 students were offered scholarship by the egyptian government for a degree programme with full tuition, tickets, accomodation, feeding, insurance, study materials and upkeep allowances in Al-Azhar University. While 10 other Imams were also selected to undergo a special training which will last for 2 months.

Governor Ganduje in his remarks thanked the government of Egypt for this gesture, and stated that it was in line with hundreds of years of bilateral relationship between the two, and also mentioned that for the School for Arabic studies Kano when it was established decades ago, had egyptians as the 1st set of teachers in the school. He also traced the long trade relationship between them dating back hundreds of years. He then urged the students to focus on their education and come back glorious to make their parents amd state proud.
The representative of the Egyptian Ambassador, the cultural attache in Kano Dr Ibrahim stated that his government decided to offer these scholarships in order to strengthen the existing relationship between his country and Kano, and he promised that the number of beneficiaries will gradually increase to cover all the 44 local govts of the state.
