The Comprehensive Health Centre
at Zamko village in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State has
received about 300 vials of anti-snake venom (ASV).
The
health centre was established by the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH)
with the responsibility of treating snakebite patients. About 250 Nigerians
died in the past one month as a result of snakebites and due to the lack of
anti-snake venom.
The Chief Medical Superintendent
of the centre, Dr Titus Dajel, told Daily Trust in Jos yesterday that the ASV
vials arrived Nigeria at the weekend and the centre had received about 300
vials of EchiTab G for treatment of bites from carpet vipers and EchiTab Plus
for venom from the carpet vipers.
He
added that the centre got the ASV vials from EchiTab Study Group, a Nigerian
representative of two foreign companies manufacturing the drug.
“We
have received 300 vials and as I am speaking, we have admitted two patients as
a result of snakebites. The crisis of snakebites is over,” he said.
