USAID, Sokoto Government Donates 2.9m Insecticidal Nets to Sokoto


A total of 2.9milion Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) are to be distributed during the Sokoto state LLIN Replacement campaign.

The nets were procured by the United States government through the US President's Malaria Initiative. 

It would be recalled that a mass campaign was implemented in 2013 where 2.6 million nets were distributed. 

Speaking at a one-day workshop for journalists in Sokoto,  Team Leader, Sokoto LLIN campaign Process, Mr Godwin Aidenagbon commended the state for establishing Malaria Elimination Agency which it said had shown its readiness to eliminate the deadly disease in the state.


"It is an indication that the state is leading in the campaign of total annihilation of malaria parasite in the country," he  added.

The representative of the USAID-backed Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3), Usman Usman said as partners, they were happy Sokoto State had ensured conducive environment for their operation.

He described LLINs as the most available tool for malaria prevention and easiest to use component of Integrated Vector Management. 

The Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Malaria Control, Alhaji Chika Abubakar urged the media  to give malaria issues a priority by reporting problems for immediate attention.

The LLINs distribution has been scheduled to hold  15th  December,2017 to 19th December, 2017
