Man remanded for killing uncle in Katsina



A middle-aged man, Murtala Abdullahi, has been remanded in prison custody for stabbing his 50-year-old uncle to death in Katsina State. 
Abdullahi allegedly killed his uncle, Ahmed Umar, while he was fast asleep by stabbing him severally on his body.
Mrs. Falila Dikko of the Katsina Senior Magistrate Court ordered his remand till February 26, next year, when the trial would continue.

FG Appoints Governing Boards For Parastatals And agencies

Two labourers gets six months jail sentence for stealing yam in Nasarawa


A Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada in Nasarawa State, on Friday sentenced two labourers to six months imprisonment each for stealing 50 tubers of yam.
The judge, Upside Yaqub, however, gave the convicts, Habibu Kabiru, 25; and Salisu Hamidu, 22, both residents of Old Orange Market Mararaba, an option of N5, 000 fine each.
Yaqub warned them to desist from committing crimes and ordered that the tubers of yam be returned to the owner.

Kogi state governor sacks SUBEB chairperson over alleged gross misconduct


The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has sacked the Chairperson State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Mrs Deborah Oshatinmehin over alleged gross misconduct.
She has been replaced by Suleiman Nadaleye Abdullahi.
Sources from the Kogi State Government House told DAILY POST on Wednesday that the sack of the SUBEB boss became necessary when it was alleged that she got herself involved in some illegal contract which never went well with those at the top.

Police arrest Benue university student nabbed over murder of colleague


A 400 Level Psychology student of a middle belt state university, Gabriel Egbe, has been arrested by the Benue State Police Command for his alleged complicity in the murder of a fellow student of the same university, one Philip Adah.
The suspect, who was paraded in Makurdi by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bashir Makama, was said to be on the run, but nabbed following a tip-off.

Police nab dealer with fake drugs in Kaduna


The police in Kaduna State on Monday said they have arrested a drug dealer with over 250,000 packets of suspected fake capsules.
The police spokesperson in tthe state, ASP Muktar Aliyu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has described the recent defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as an exercise in futility.

Four killed in fresh Southern Kaduna attack, more troops deployed


The Kaduna State government says it is saddened by the latest attack on Unguwan Mailafiya community which led to death of four people and about eight others injured.
Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Media and Publicity made the remark while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Monday.

Soldiers kill 3 Boko Haram insurgents, recover 200 cattle


The Nigerian Army on Monday said its troops killed three Boko Haram insurgents and recovered 200 cattle in Borno.
Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director of Army Public Relations, announced this in a statement in Maiduguri.

Kaduna Pilgrims Board to refund N140 million to pilgrims


The Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board said it would commence refunding over N140 million to pilgrims who performed pilgrimage in 2016 and 2017 from Thursday, Dec. 28.
The Overseer of the Board, Imam Husaini Ikara, made this known in a statement signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Yunusa Abdullahi.

Man Slits Girlfriend's Throat For Trying To Marry Another Man In Katsina


The Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested a 23-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, who slashed the throat of his girl-friend, Aisha Dikkom.
The police also said it has arrested a 15-year-old house wife, Daushiya Abdullahi, for allegedly killing her husband and another person through food poison.

Air Force bombs Boko haram structures, kills scores


The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Sunday said it has carried out more air strikes against the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) at the fringes of Borno state, near Lake Chad, Killing scores of the insurgents and damaging their structures.
It said the bombardments were conducted with fighter jets and helicopter gunships with the aim of weakening the will of the insurgents and neutralising them from carrying out their deadly activities.

Governor Abdulaziz Yari is not from Zamfara, Senator Marafa


The Political quagmire between the Governor of Zamfara State , Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Marafa ( APC Zamfara Central) over the nominee for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state, Thursday took a different dimension, as the latter alleged that the former is not an indigene of the state .

It will be recalled that the Senate had based on recommendation by its committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused confirmation of nomination of Barrister Ahmad Bello Mahmud as REC nominee for the state on the strength of petition written to that effect by Gov Yari. Governor Yari in the petition addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari in March this year and copied the Senate leadership alleged that the nominee was not an indigene of the state.

15-year-old housewife arrested for killing husband, half-brother in Katsina


A fifteen-year-old housewife in Katsina State, Dausiya Abdulmuminu, has been arrested by the Katsina Police Command for allegedly poisoning her husband, Samilu Usman, 27, and her half-brother, Mohammed Abdulmuminu, to death.
Spokesman of the Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident to reporters yesterday, adding that Dausiya was being detained at the Bakori Police Division.

NDLEA Arrests 619 Suspected Drug Traffickers In Kano


The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says the agency has arrested 619 suspected drug traffickers in Kano State in 2017.
The state Commandant of the agency, Alhaji Hamza Umar, disclosed this on Friday in Kano at a news conference organised by the command in collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Umar said that the suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in the state where 165 of them were convicted to serve various prison terms.

Drug abuse: Tambuwal urges total ban on codeine syrups


Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday called on the Federal Government to totally ban Codeine syrups in the country.
Tambuwal made the call while speaking at a Senate Rountable on Drug Abuse held in Kano.
The two-day programme was organised by the Senate as part of the measures to address the drug use crisis in the country with a view to finding a lasting solution to it.

FRSC Records 14 Deaths on Jos-Hawan Kibo-Forest Road


The Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday said it had recorded 14 deaths in 34 crashes that occurred on Jos-hawan kibo-forest axis between January and July.
Mr Jonas Agwu, the corps Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Jos zone, made the disclosure while inaugurating an initiative meant to improve visibility and reduce crashes at hawan-kibo in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau.

Nigerian Police Arrest 2 Deadly Kidnappers Terrorizing Abuja-Kaduna and Jere-Kagarko Highway


Two suspected kidnappers said to be on the wanted list of the police are now cooling down their heels in the net of Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris’ Intelligence Response Team(IRT), having been arrested early in the week.

Taraba presents 2018 budget proposal of N96.5bn to legislature


Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba on Thursday presented a budget proposal of N96.5 billion to the state legislature for 2018 fiscal year.
While laying the estimates before the legislators in Jalingo, Ishaku explained that the budget proposal was about 12 per cent lower than the estimate for 2017 when the state budgeted N110.1 billion.

Kano Hisbah Board arrests 12 youths involved in Immorality


The Kano State Hisbah Board on Wednesday said it had arrested 12 youths allegedly involved in immoral acts in the city.
Malam Umar Yahaya, the board’s Public Relations Officer, said in Kano that the suspects were apprehended on Monday evening at Maidile, behind Shagari Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government area during a special patrol.

Constitution amendment: Taraba Assembly fails to pass LG autonomy bill


Taraba State House of Assembly, yesterday, failed to pass the bill to alter the Constitution, which seeks to abrogate the state/local government joint account and give the third tier financial autonomy.

The House, which passed 10 of the amendments, referred the local government autonomy bill alongside four others to the House Ad Hoc Committee on Constitution Amendment for further legislative work. 

I left over N14bn in Katsina treasury — Shema


The immediate past governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema said his administration left over N14 billion in the coffers of both the state and local government as at May 29, 2015.
In a statement by his media aide, Oluwabusola Olawale, the former governor denied claim by the present administration in the state that it inherited N4 billion from Shema.

2019: 10 jostle for Kano deputy governor


Barely 24 hours after Kano State Deputy Governor Hafiz Abubakar declared that he would not contest in 2019, over 10 people have shown interest in the position.
Those vying for the job include two vice chancellors; two members of the State Executive Council; a professor of over 15 years; and a retired federal permanent secretary.
A principal member of the House of Assembly, who pleaded for anonymity, said he had received calls from top indigenes, advising him to sponsor a motion to impeach Abubakar.

M.Sc. degree holders apply for primary school job in Kaduna State


Kaduna State Government, on Wednesday, began screening of 43,806 applicants for 25,000 teaching positions in its primary schools, with M.Sc. degree holders being among the applicants. 
The list of applicants pasted on the notice board at Rimi College, Kaduna, one of the examination centres, showed that two applicants held M.Sc. degrees in Biochemistry and Water Resources.

Katsina state government spends N2bn on drainages




Katsina state government has spent over N2 billion in the last two years for the construction of a standard drainage system in the state capital and its environs. Governor Aminu Masari disclosed this yesterday while receiving stakeholders and political leaders in the state who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.
“The present administration has expended over N2 billion to construct drainages in the Katsinametropolis within the last two years. “When this administration came on board, it met several wards that had been experiencing flood disasters every time.

NNPC plans three power plants to generate 4,600MW in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano


The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation says it is planning to construct three power plants to generate about 4,600 megawatts in the northern part of the country.
The power plants, to be located in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano, would rely on gas supplies from the proposed Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, AKK, Gas Pipeline project.
The tender for the award of contract for the pipeline was two weeks ago presented to the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, for approval.

SUBEB Announces Examination Centres for Teachers recruitment


The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) hereby inform all applicants who applied for teaching appointments in the state’s Public Primary Schools, that the aptitude test will be conducted on Wednesday, which is tomorrow the 20th of December 2017.

NDLEA arrests 86 persons in Gombe


•Confiscates 2,125.204Kg of drugs
The Gombe State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested 86 suspected persons and confiscated 2,125.204Kg of hard drugs in the state.
The State Commander, Aliyu Adole said 1,293.424 kg of hard drugs were made of Indian hemp while psychotropic substance made up the other 831.78kg.
He spoke in Gombe while commenting on the activities of the agency in the state during the outgoing year.

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday swore in seven new permanent secretaries who were inaugurated August 15, by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja before the weekly cabinet meeting began.

New PDP faction emerges, opens secretariat in Abuja


A new faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday opened a new secretariat for the party in Asokoro District of Abuja.
The PDP duly recognized national secretariat is located at Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.
