NO fewer than 34, 000
destitute has so far been registered and started benefiting from the federal
government special intervention, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme by the
Federal Government in Jigawa state.
This was disclosed by
the national coordinator of the programme Mrs Temitope Sinkaiye while speaking
to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital, said: “the federal government has
released over N420 million every month since the programme took off in
September in the state.”
Mrs Temitope Sinkaiye explained that the programme was initiated
in nine local government with each beneficiary receiving the sum of N5,000
every month. About N6 billion would be injected into the state rural economy in
a year.”
According to her, the programme is in three component, “the cash
transfer for consumption, training on livelihood activities and Top-Up, if all
the projects fully commence the amount will be increased to N10,000 far
beneficiary far month”.
She noted that her office in conjunction with the state and local
government will train the beneficiaries on various skills and trades and form
into cooperatives groups to links them with credits institution for their
businesses to be self-reliant within the period of the programme of three
years.
“On the one component of the programme that is Top-up any state
will choose one of the human sectors to engage on, so Jigawa selected Health as
its area of deficiency that it would like to address the issues of maternal and
child health care in the state”, she emphases.
Mrs Sinkaiye maintained that “under this Top-up where the state
selected health as the area of deficiency and to focus on maternal and child
health care, every beneficiary must be fully and frequent on safe motherhood
and rotten immunisation before benefiting with the additional N5,000.”
“For Health, the condition is basically, the woman is attending
anti-natal and post-natal and the child is receiving all the immunisation”.
Sinkaiye also stated
that, for the program to take – off we need to access the health facilities
because we cannot apply conditions that Peoples cannot fulfil. If a woman can
go to ante-natal, the clinic must be there to attain to their needs and that of
the children.
“We visited health
facilities to access whether they can provide the services, we spoke with the
governor, we presented the reports and we have a very cheering news that they
are going to address where there are gaps, some communities have good health
facilities while others need renovation and manpower and by now they have swung
into action,” Temipofe Sinkaiye disclosed.
She further explained that she has confidence in the authorities
of Jigawa based on the past experience, “we knew governor Badaru when he said
something, he commits himself, this is why Jigawa has gone this far, we have
access to this additional support that other States are still lagging behind.”
